Pico wine and “island-mountain” wine tourism have been featured in a session to promote Turismo de Portugal in eastern China, which was broadcast live on television and the Internet.
The event showed eight wines from different regions of Portugal, including Port wine, vinho verde and white wine, according to Chinese travel agency Tuniu.
The delegate of Tourism of Portugal in China, Tiago Brito, presented the Vineyard Landscape of Pico Island, which in 2004 was listed as a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The session, which took place in the city of Nanjing, capital of the province of Jiangsu, in eastern China, was organized by Turismo de Portugal, Tuniu and NJBG, the public broadcaster of Nanjing.
The event was broadcast live on the NJBG platform, the Chinese live streaming app Niuka, and the Tuniu platform.
The island of Pico, where the highest point in Portugal is located, at 2,351 meters high, has 15 entrepreneurs linked to wine production.
China's wine market is already the fifth largest in the world, although only about 3% of China's 1.4 billion people regularly drink wine.
